The final curtain

Posted 1st of June 2013

This weekend is my last as a VisComm student in IADT. Four years hard slog will culminate in a college-wide exhibition this Thursday the 6th of June, and I couldn’t be more excited. That’s not to say it won’t also be terribly sad—I’ll deeply miss IADT, it’s literally been ‘home’ for the past four years, and I’ve met most of the best people I know through college.

I’ve been reminiscing all day with Amy, thinking of our care-free first year days, the wild nights of second year, and the day we arrived into third year—Dave Smith walked into the room with our first brief—and the penny dropped, we suddenly had a million and one deadlines and finite time to fulfil them. Before too long, we became accustomed to them, and with our final deadline fast approaching, I have no idea what I’m going to do with all my free time come next week.

It made me think of life before VisComm, and would you believe? I first heard the term ‘graphic design’ in February 2009, and since then, it’s pretty much consumed my life. I began studying in IADT in September 2009, and I think I’ve learned something new every day since. I still have so much learning to do, and really hope that a design studio in Dublin is willing to educate me in exchange for all that I can offer.

I’m very proud to be graduating with Amy West, Kate Hynes, Conor Flood, Lara Hanlon, Rory Simms, Ronan Kelly, Ciara McDonald, Brian O’Tuama, Duane Dalton, Aoife Gainsford, Clare Mathews, James Delaney, Sinead Lynch, Rosanne Lancaster.
